Suggested Day Trips:

 

Day 1.  Visit the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport.  It will take most of your first day exploring the museums twelve buildings. Spend the rest of your day visiting Cape Jellison in Stockton Springs, seeing the lighthouse and ruins at Fort Point State park.

Day 2. After your luxurious breakfast, head to Castine and visit the Maritime Academy. Ride on to Blue Hill for lunch, and then visit Deer Isle and Stonington, two coastal fishing communities with beautiful ocean views.

Day 3. After another wonderful gourmet breakfast you can head to the Camden Public Landing and take a sail on the 58' gaff rigged Schooner Lazy Jack II with Capt. Sean O'Connor.  Then browse some of the local shops and stores.  Enjoy canoeing or kayaking from the Camden landing.  Don't have a canoe or kayak?  No problem, you may purchase one from our Woodstrip Canoe and Kayak Shop here at the Mermaid Cove Inn.  If time permits you can then go to the breakwater in Rockland and take in the beautiful views from the lighthouse on the end of the jetty.

Day 4. After being stunned by your morning cuisine, you can then head to Acadia National Park. There you can enjoy Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Jordan's Pond, and the Otter Cliffs along the Ocean Drive. Then drive to Bar Harbor and explore the downtown area. If time permits take a drive to Bass Harbor Lighthouse and watch the sun set.

Day 5. Yet another culinary masterpiece, then off to take a ferry from Rockland to Vinalhaven for a picnic and to enjoy the views of Lane Island State Park which offers a wildlife preserve.  Browse the local shops and have Dinner back on the mainland in Rockland.

Day 6. After two helpings of Cove Fries and eating more than you really should have, visit Fort Knox, the most visited State Historic Site in the state of Maine with its civil war encampments. Then look to see the osprey nests on the Verona Island Suspension Bridge. Head back to Winterport and visit Molly's Dress Shop and the Winterport Commercial House Antiques. Try some wine samples at the Winterport Winery and then have dinner at the Winterport House of Pizza. Try their 20" Pizza Pie, or their new Mexican menu.  If subs are your style, try the Sub Shop where they make their own sub rolls!

Day 7. After a well prepared hearty breakfast spend your last day shopping at the quaint shops and flea markets of Searsport. Antique, Gift, Specialty Shops, and great restaurants await you. Finally visit Sears Island. Park and hike the trails for wonderful views of wildlife and nature. Wear good walking shoes as cars are prohibited from the length of the island.  Finish off your vacation with fine dining at the Fountain House Restaurant here on Main St. in Winterport.
